G-FEST regularly features the following contests and competitions:

Amateur Video Contest

Entries may be no longer than six minutes in length, should focus on the world of Japanese sci-fi and fantasy, and be at least 80% original content. Entries will be pre-screened and the finalists shown at G-FEST. Videos should be on DVD-R or -RW for best results. Send videos post marked by June 25th to Mark Justice, 4359 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village, OH 44054. Entries cannot be accepted after the deadline. Please be sure to include your phone number or email address in the event a replacement disc is needed, or bring one to G-FEST. Videos may be compiled and sold with the proceeds going to the G-fans Helping G-fans charity.

Art Contest

Artwork can be entered until 5:00 PM, on Saturday, July 16th at the Art Room. Artwork can be picked up at any time after entry, but must remain on display until judging on Sunday to compete. Entry limit is three pieces per contestant in the following categories: Adult (ages 16 and over), Youth (ages 9 to 15), Child (ages 8 and under), and Artist Alley participants (no age restriction). Artwork may be 2D or 3D. Artists must properly fill out an entry form for each piece submitted, and receive a claim tag to retrieve their artwork. Subject matter should relate to the world of Japanese fantasy films (no vulgarity, nudity, or excessive blood/violence please). All acceptable submissions are at judge’s discretion. For ease of display, framing of artwork is not recommended. Previous artwork entries will not be accepted. All artwork must be 100% originally designed by the artist, no exceptions - this will be strictly enforced. Judging will take place before the Art Room opens on Sunday morning. First, second, and third place ribbons are awarded to winners in each category.

Costume Contest

Entrants will assemble at G-FEST and display their costumes at the annual costume parade, as well as during the convention. The parade is free to enter, but you must attend the orientation for contestants on Friday or Saturday afternoon (check the convention guide for time and place) and fill out a brief entry form. There are several categories: Young Fan (self built), Young Fan (adult built), Novice, Journeyman, Master, and Showcase. Prizes include First for each division, Best in Show, Spirit award, and Judge’s Choice awards. Prizes are awarded on Sunday morning in the Dojo/Tokusatsu room at 10:00 AM. Prizes cannot be shipped and the results of the judging won’t be known until the early hours of Sunday morning. For further information or to submit an early entry form, email dojoatgfest@gmail.com.

Model Contest

Subjects should relate to the world of Japanese fantasy films. They may be stand-alone, diorama, altered action figure or scratch-built models of any material. Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories. Entrants will be received at the model room and a claim tag will be issued. Models may not overhang the tables (6' by 30"). Music Video Contest

Set scenes from the world of Japanese sci-fi (live action please, no anime) to music (nothing vulgar, please) and send in your video. Entrants will be pre-screened and the finalists shown at G-FEST. Send videos by July 6th to Andre Steele, 622 North Dickson Street, Michigan City, IN 46360.

Video Game Tournament

The video gaming tournaments will be run on both Wii and Xbox systems. Registration information and specific times will be posted at G-FEST XXVII in the tournament room.
