King Kong vs. Godzilla

King Kong vs. Godzilla

Kaiju Eiga Film Fest
The “Battle of the Century” brought together the two monster monarchs for their only cinematic encounter. The most successful of all Godzilla films (in terms of ticket sales), King Kong vs. Godzilla was significantly altered for international release. Employing the talents of Honda, Tsuburaya, Ifukube, and the acting of Tadao Takashima, Mie Hama, and Akiko Wakabayashi, it remains a treat to this day.

Shin Godzilla

Shin Godzilla

Shin Godzilla is the 31st installment in the Godzilla franchise, and the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho Studios. It was co-directed by Hideaki Anno, creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Shinji Higuchi, well known for his special effects work on the Heisei Gamera trilogy. Shin Godzilla is a reimagining of the monster’s origins, drawing heavy inspiration from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. The film is dialog heavy, featuring a massive cast, and realistically portrays the struggles and political complexities of facing an overwhelming national disaster. Shin Godzilla was released to critical acclaim from Japanese critics, but the film has been somewhat divisive among Godzilla fans. It became the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film of 2016, and the highest-grossing Japanese-produced Godzilla film in the franchise. It also won several awards at the 40th Japan Academy Prize, including Picture of the Year and Director of the Year.
