Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah

Kaiju Eiga Film Fest
Released in 1991, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah was the first of the Heisei films to bring back one of Godzilla’s classic foes. Directed by Kazuki Omori, and starring fan-favorite, Robert Scott Field as android M-11, the film was a box office hit, and won a Japanese Academy Award for special effects.

Gamera vs. Viras

Kaiju Eiga Film Fest
The fourth entry in the original Showa Gamera series, Gamera vs. Viras was released in 1968. This time, Earth is threatened by invaders from outer space. Carl Craig and Toru Takasuka star as the two boycotts who help Gamera defeat the aliens.

Yongary

Yongary, Monster from the Deep

Yongary, Monster From the Deep, was produced in South Korea in 1976, with direction by famed Korean director Kim Ki-duk. It follows many of the kaiju conventions of Japan’s popular Gamera films, with a focus on a young child as the protagonist. Japan’s Toei Co., Ltd. was brought in to assist with the film’s special effects.

The Green Slime

The Green Slime

Kaiju Eiga Film Fest
Released in 1968, The Green Slime was a co-production between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Toei Studios. It was shot in Japan with a Japanese director and film crew, but featured Caucasian actors. The story takes place on space station Gamma 3, where the crew must battle an invasion of one-eyed, tentacled monsters. This cult classic features actress Linda Miller, one of our special guests this year!

King Kong Escapes

King Kong Escapes

Released in 1967, King Kong Escapes gained world-wide distribution through Universal Pictures. It employed the talents of Toho’s A-list staff and actors, including director Ishiro Honda, SPFX director Eiji Tsuburaya, composer Akira Ifukube, and actors Akira Takarada, Mie Hama, and Hideyo Amamoto. Actress Linda Miller made her debut, and co-starred with Akira Takarada and Rhodes Reason.

Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend

Tsuburaya Productions released Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend in 2009. It was directed by Koichi Sakamoto, the action director for the production of Power Rangers in New Zealand. The film featured returning actors from the original Ultraman, Ultra Seven, and other series in the Ultra franchise, and went on to become the second highest grossing Ultraman movie.
